I have got some salad stuff sown, I am planning on radishes and beetroot once I have a bed to sow them in outside - correct me if I am wrong there
I have to admit that I do quite like the digging, it's just that there is sooo much of it, it would be nice to go to the plot and have something else to do I am trying to get things planted so that I can at least benefit from my labours in a few weeks |

Ade 3 exclamation marks. That's almost vehement!!!
It didn't cost me owt like £300, it was £69 for a large roll. Which will last forever and makes great paths once the beds are cleared. So there!!! .gif) _________________

Always work backwards when digging, that way you never see what is yet to do only that which is done !! _________________ Gulp ...

That rain only lasted a half hour Ady and the showers they forecast for today never materialised, so it was out with the watering can again tonight. Everything's shrivelled up since the gales though and int looking too happy I think the combo of wind and sun is doing for em.
I'm doing exactly the same as you this first year SQ - dig a bit, plant a bit, weed the bit I planted , dig a bit more... and when all else fails chop the weeds down to make a lawn. The path I'm sposed to maintain gets a haircut with a pair of shears which is backbreaking but does the job, sort of _________________ I'm not big on high maintenance - when it's time to bow out, I'll skid in sideways, in a wrecked, wrinkly and burned out body, wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, yelling "Woooohoooo, what a ride that was!!!!" |

My courgettes are still weeny but I have loads of weeny courgettes!!! I also have baby pumpkins, hubbards and buttercups. No potimarron yet though! My marrow plants are also producing baby marrows.
Today, I planted out sprouts. As my big ones always blow despite being put in rock hard ground, this year I have dug a trench and planted them in the bottom. When they are big enough, I shall fill in the trench in the hope that being so deep, they are more firmly anchored. Their bed was also dug a few months ago so they can spread their roots further (TG always digs his contrary to popular thought for this reason) I staked my tomatoes which are covered in flowers and disciplined a few naughty runners!
I have dug my first potatoes, harvested cabbage (pointy and round) and spring sown broadies (my winter ones finished last week - what a succession!) I also dug up my overwintering onions. One or two with rot which have come home to be used. The rest are sitting on weed covering as there is no rain forecast till tomorrow.
I shall be harvesting peas next week!!!!! _________________

Yesterday we ate mainly from garden , so chuffed.
Lunch courgette soup. Dinner potatoes , spinach and french beans. Only needed a little fish. For dessert rhubarb. Really chuffed.
Got 3lb 12oz of Charlottes from one bag. From the 3 small seed pots I put in there was really impressed |

I have three prospective championship marrows and loads of littlish courgettes but they all seem to have got stuck with the recent cold weather. Still eating broadies (French and Runners flowering nicely) new potatoes, kale (Red Russian, Cavalo Nero and Curly) and cabbage. Started harvesting peas and will soon be harvesting carrots. My winter squash are putting out loads of fruit and one of my pumpkis is tennis ball sized. If the weather warms up a bit, I can see this being a very good year. My sweetcorn is looking well healthy too. _________________

I aint picked one yet. As for strawbs I ate two so far. Peas - none. Not checked me spuds yet. Oh well maybe tomorrow, weather permitting
I could get to the plot and find millions of courgettes
hope so, got a stall at the church fete on Sat'dy Might take some eggs, and type out a recipe for courgette omelette _________________

My peas got munched too - 2 sowings, so the third lot are still only ickle and just thinking about flowers now Beans in the garden are flowering, beans at the plot are putting out new leaves after being munched. Ditto asparagus peas. Ditto sweetcorn (not flowering but three times the size of the plot ones Josh planted). I laid some of the thistles I weeded out, around his sweetcorn and peas (he's got his own bit of the plot) to try to stop thembeing munched any more and so far, it seems to be doing the trick. Brasicas are doing well and so's the fruit and GH stuff. Success wise, it's almost the opposite of last year _________________ I'm not big on high maintenance - when it's time to bow out, I'll skid in sideways, in a wrecked, wrinkly and burned out body, wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, yelling "Woooohoooo, what a ride that was!!!!" |
